I’ve been blogging since 2009.  Experts have always said that you should brand yourself, that you should build your own personal blog online.  Then, Empower Network comes out and they have their own done for you blog.  I was always a little bit torn, trying to decide if I should build the Empower Network blog or my own personal blog.  Now, with this launch from Empower Network, you are going to be able to do it all in one.

I do “done for you” content every day for The Prosperity Team.  Before, team members had to take my video, go to the URL, grab the embed code, go to their blog, click on the text section, paste the code in, click visual, type their blog out… it was difficult with WordPress.
With ENV2, a team member will see my video, click REBLOG and type their description.  A blog will be completed in less than three minutes with one little tiny click of a button.

Spacecraft Sees Giant Coronal Hole In the Sun (Video)

 A space telescope aimed at the sun has spotted a gigantic hole in the solar atmosphere — a dark spot that covers nearly a quarter of our closest star, spewing solar material and gas into space.

The so-called coronal hole over the sun's north pole came into view between July 13 and 18 and was observed by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, or SOHO. NASA released a video of the sun hole as seen by the SOHO spacecraft, showing the region as a vast dark spot surrounded by solar activity.

Coronal holes are darker, cooler regions of the sun's atmosphere, or corona, containing little solar material. In these gaps, magnetic field lines whip out into the solar wind rather than looping back to the sun's surface. Coronal holes can affect space weather, as they send solar particles streaming off the sun about three times faster than the slower wind unleashed elsewhere from the sun's atmosphere, according to a description from NASA.
"While it’s unclear what causes coronal holes, they correlate to areas on the sun where magnetic fields soar up and away, failing to loop back down to the surface, as they do elsewhere," NASA's Karen Fox at the agency's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., explained in an image description.
These holes are not uncommon, but their frequency changes with the solar activity cycle. The sun is currently reaching its 11-year peak in activity, known as the solar maximum. Around the time of this peak, the sun's poles switch their magnetism. The number of coronal holes typically decreases leading up to the switch.
After the reversal, new coronal holes appear near the poles. Then as the sun approaches the solar minimum again, the holes creep closer to the equator, growing in both size and number, according to NASA. (Read More..)

 Welcome to the Box Office Report, where we're betting some Fox executive is telling Hugh Jackman that he's "not mad at him, just disappointed," right this very second. 
1. The Wolverine (Fox): $55 million in 3,924 theaters 
So, oof. Let's get the oof out of the way quickly. Hugh Jackman returning to the role that made him famous was supposed to draw a lot more money than $55 million. It's his fifth time in the role (not counting his cameo in First Class) and the expectations were closer to the $70 million range, after X-Men Origins earned $89 million in its opening weekend. But a number of thing contributed to this disappointment. The first Wolverine movie was terrible: Origins received a 38 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The hype around this Wolverine project was that it was better than the last one -- Darren Aronofsky was originally attached to direct -- except reviews said it was only a marginal improvement.
But executives and analysts are pointing to simple audience fatigue to explain away the numbers. "There have been times before when audience fatigue from the summer sets in," a Fox executive told Nikki Finke. Buzzfeed's Adam Vary says it's not the heat that's tiring people out, it's the super heroes: "Granted, most non-superhero movies would be thrilled with an opening weekend that good," he writes. "But nonetheless, it plays into the ongoing narrative that Hollywood’s dependency on mega-budgeted films based on Comic-Con-friendly source material is starting to go bad." 
The last two summers have brought an onslaught of super hero movies that have practically waged a civil war at the box office, and audiences are realizing they're not obligated to see every single one. And when budgets are rising each year, the lower turnouts should scare film executives to maybe think twice when authorizing another $150 million dud. 
2. The Conjuring (Warner Bros.): $22.1 million in 3,022 theaters [Week 2]
Does this mean we're not going to get the requisite end-of-summer horror movie that comes every year? If they start the summer blockbuster season early, does it end early too? 
3. Despicable Me 2 (Universal): $16 million in 3,476 theaters [Week 4]
Having trouble believing there are still kids left who haven't seen this movie.
4. Turbo (Fox): $13.3 million in 3,809 theaters [Week 2]
The snail racer continues to profit from kids who already saw Despicable Me 2 but didn't want to go to the park this week. 
5. Grown Ups 2 (Sony): $11.5 million in 3,258 theaters [Week 3]

 In the tiny second-floor bedroom, there's a pile of Jake "The Snake" Roberts action figures on a table, plastic muscles ripped and bulging, snarls on tiny faces. Above them, on the wall, are signed comic-book-style cartoons of Jake The Snake fighting atop the Empire State Building and deep in the heart of the jungle. All around the room are photographs of Jake The Snake wrestling in some of the world's largest arenas against fellow iconic wrestlers.
It'd be a hell of a tribute to the man, were it not for Jake the Snake himself writhing in the bed in the center of the room.
It's a summer morning outside Atlanta. Jake Roberts, unshaven, his long hair matted, is lying in the bed, devastated, alone. He'd been clean and sober for eight months, drying out and cleaning out and trying to resurrect his life and his career. But he's just fallen.

Had he entered the wrestling game any earlier, Diamond Dallas Page might be somewhere working a forklift and punching a time clock today. Page was running a nightclub in Florida in the 1980s, dabbling with wrestling management on the side, when he first met Roberts. At that point, Roberts was well into his career as The Snake, and Page, then in his 30s, mentioned that he was considering getting into the ring himself.
"I wanted to do it, but I assumed I was too old," Page says. "I started managing at 31, but didn't even get into the ring until I was 35."

 When it comes to money, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West definitely have a lot of it. That is why it may not be such a big deal for them to drop more than $750,000 on, say, something like gold toilets.
British tabloid The Sun claims Kardashian and West spent around $767,000 on four gold-plated toilets for their swanky new Bel Air, Calif., mansion.
They also reportedly dropped $444,000 on six special beds and nearly $325,000 on kitchen appliances, plus a Swarovski crystal-encrusted fridge freezer.
This isn't the first time the reality star has been linked to an over-the-top commode. Last year, another tabloid report claimed Kardashian spent $100,000 on a self-flushing toilet. She purportedly made the purchase because she was scared of guests forgetting to flush on their own.
Even though they might have a combined net worth of around $140 million, we aren't so sure Kardashian and West would choose to spend their hard-earned cash on luxury latrines.
What we do know for certain is that Kardashian is very particular about her bathrooms and what goes on in them.
While staying with mom Kris Jenner, the 32-year-old has criticized the black shower and black toilet paper in Jenner's house. Back when she was married to Kris Humphries, she complained about the NBA star's bathroom habits, including how he spritzed the mirror while brushing his teeth.(Read More)

This Box Office Disaster Is Bad News for Netflix

 As the video streaming wars continue to heat up, companies such as Amazon.com and Netflix  (NASDAQ: NFLX  ) are increasingly trying to find ways to differentiate themselves from their competition.
And for the industry leaders in video streaming over the past two years, those efforts have increasingly involved building a world-class repertoire of original series.
For Netflix, anyway, this move seemed to be paying off in a big way up until last week, after its programs received no less than 14 Emmy nods, including nine for House of Cards, two for Hemlock Grove, and even one for Arrested Development, which the company recently revived for an exclusive fourth season.
Then again, that didn't exactly help Netflix stock Tuesday, which is when it fell more than 6% after the company disappointed investors with weaker-than-expected second quarter subscriber growth.
What's more, as fellow Fool Blake Bos pointed out in March, original content can often prove undeniably expensive, so there's much to be said for the merits of signing deals for lower-cost existing programming -- of which Netflix incidentally also boasts plenty.

But what happens when some of that expensive original content doesn't perform as anticipated?
Thanks to last weekend's dismal box office debut of DreamWorks Animations'  (NASDAQ: DWA  )  Turbo, we may get the chance to find out.
Remember, as part of Netflix's huge content deal with DreamWorks announced back in February, the animation specialist agreed to create an original kids' series exclusively for Netflix, based on the feature film, and aptly named Turbo F.A.S.T.
So what's the problem? 
If Turbo's horrific $21.3 million opening weekend take is any indication, kids may simply not be all that interested in the snail-racing flick.
And considering Netflix probably promised DreamWorks a hefty sum to ensure that the series would be offered only alongside its signature red logo, something tells me the company won't be allowed to back out of the deal, as the animator undoubtedly wants to continue milking every possible penny out of the brand in an effort to recoup its estimated $135 million production budget.
Then again, perhaps Turbo is exactly the kind of show that could do exceedingly well on a streaming $8-per-month service like Netflix, so maybe this won't be a huge problem for the King of Streaming in and of itself. (Read More..)

 Last Friday night was a very good one for the head chef at Ralph's Italian Restaurant in Philadelphia.
And it was all because of Taylor Swift.
She didn't even kiss anyone! And after her creepy fan incident, we could use some good T-Swift news.
Instead, she and her tour mates, Ed Sheeran and Austin Mahone, were craving some late-night Italian after their show. They chose Ralph's.
The head chef immediately called his mother.
"I called my mom to tell her Swift was there, and she wanted me to take a picture because she is a big fan," he told E! News.
"My son has autism, and while I'm at work my mom and my son love to listen to her music. He loves her music!"
Swift took pictures with the staff and had some more surprises in store. She handed over two tickets to her concert for the following night.
"It was so kind-hearted of her," the chef told E! News. "My son is 11. It was my son and I's first concert we've ever been to! It was really special."
And to top it all of, she left a $500 tip.

Father of yank killed: Espana train crash "pathetic"

 The daddy of the yank lady killed in Wednesday's train crash in Espana that conjointly took the lives of seventy nine others calls things "difficult" and "pathetic," and says he is terribly upset and confused.

Gustavo Angel confirmed to CBS News that his girl, Ana-Maria Cordoba, 47, of urban center, Va., perished within the crash. He same he was told of her death by authorities weekday afternoon.

Angel same Ana-Maria was on vacation in Santiago Delaware Compostela for 2 weeks together with her husband and girl. They were visiting the couple's son, associate exchange student at an area university.

Ana-Maria's husband has os injuries and her girl features a broken leg, and each area unit hospitalized, Angel said, adding that the son wasn't on the train.

Hillary Clinton adviser Huma Abedin, Anthony Weiner's wife, now in spotlight

When former U.S. congressman Anthony Weiner admitted two years ago to sending explicit messages and photos to women online, his wife was notably absent, letting Weiner make his public mea culpa alone. But on Tuesday, Huma Abedin was front and center as Weiner confessed to having further explicit exchanges, even after the first scandal forced his resignation from Congress.

Abedin, 36, is no stranger to politics. She has worked for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for years and accompanied her husband on the campaign trail in his current bid for New York City mayor.

She had her first news conference on Tuesday, however, and she admitted to being nervous -- but it was her moment to defend her husband of three years and describe her struggle to forgive him.

Soul-searching Weiner seeks forgiveness

"It took a lot of work and a whole lot of therapy to get to a place where I could forgive Anthony," Abedin said. "It was not an easy choice in any way, but I made the decision that it was worth staying in this marriage." 

Who is Weiner's wife?Abedin and Weiner were married in a ceremony officiated by former President Bill Clinton in July 2010 after being introduced during the 2008 presidential campaign. Their marriage drew extra attention because Abedin is Muslim and Weiner is Jewish.

Weiner admitted in June 2011 that he had sent sexually explicit messages and photos to women online. He apologized for initially claiming they weren't his and said he was seeking treatment, and he resigned from the U.S. House two weeks later.

The couple had a baby boy in December of that year.

On Tuesday, a gossip website published screen shots of sexual conversations that it said Weiner had had with a woman last summer, along with explicit photographs it claimed he had sent.

In his afternoon news conference, Weiner admitted that some of the online exchanges and photographs were his but said some were from before his resignation and some were after.

Abedin said Tuesday she knows her husband made "horrible mistakes" both before and after his resignation from Congress.

"We discussed all of this before he decided to run for mayor, so really what I want to say is, I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him, and as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward," she said.

As predicted by Anthony Weiner himself, the sex scandal that led to his 2011 resignation from Congress would become an issue during his mayoral campaign. And a series of lewd texts and photos revealed Tuesday has forced Weiner to ask New Yorkers to "give him another chance."

In a news conference late Tuesday afternoon, Weiner read a statement apologizing for his behavior and he repeated, as he has done since he jumped into the New York City mayoral race in May, that he and his wife, Huma Abedin, are "moving forward."  

Abedin, who to this point had not spoken about the scandal during Weiner's mayoral campaign, told reporters that she "strongly" believes this scandal is "between us" and added, "I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him and as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward."

Weiner opened the press conference saying, "As I have said in the past, these things that I did were wrong and hurtful to my wife and caused us to go through challenges in our marriage that extended past my resignation from Congress," adding, "I want to again say that I am very sorry to anyone who was on the receiving end of these messages and the disruption that this has caused."

Can Nate Robinson Become NBA's Sixth Man of the Year with Denver Nuggets?

Playing the Denver Nuggets will be more exhausting than ever following the addition of high-energy dynamo Nate Robinson. Denver's unique backcourt situation, though, will prevent Robinson from making a major impact with the Nuggets like he did last season with the Chicago Bulls.

So any consideration for him winning the Sixth Man of the Year Award next season can probably stop now.
According to Benjamin Hochman of The Denver Post, the Nuggets agreed with the pint-sized spark plug on a two-year deal.
The Nuggets were already approaching luxury-tax territory for next season, and with only the biannual exception available, they got terrific value in adding one of the league's most explosive bench scorers for a yearly salary of just over $2 million. (Read More..)

She said he had recently had a blood clot in his lung.Mr. Farina eventually had a longer career as an actor than he did in law enforcement, infusing dozens of roles with world-weary credibility and a convincing nexus of nose and mustache.He had been working as a detective in a special burglary unit in Chicago when a mutual friend introduced him to the director Michael Mann, who was making his first feature film, “Thief.” Mr. Farina was initially a consultant for the movie before being given a small role as a crime boss’s enforcer. "The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge," read the palace statement, released in the early morning hours on Monday.

And now that she's settled comfortably (or miserably) in her private birthing suite in the Lindo Wing, we remain on the edge of our seats waiting for baby news. 'We've got to be as thorough as can be'; Cleveland cops look for more victims after 3 women found in bags

Investigators in a Cleveland suburb have reason to believe they will find more victims after the recent discovery of three bodies wrapped in garbage bags, officials said Sunday.
“We’ve got to be as thorough as we can be,” East Cleveland Police Chief Ralph Spotts told volunteers gathered to search through vacant houses to look for more bodies.
“There may be one or two more victims,” he said.

Police will continue searching Sunday for more victims after three bodies believed to be female were found in a house in suburban Cleveland. A suspect who is a registered sex offender who has served prison time was arrested in connection with the case. TODAY's Jenna Wolfe reports.

And by late Sunday afternoon, authorities had blocked off an open lot in the neighborhood after finding another partially buried garbage bag, though investigators have not yet said what was in it.
Police arrested a suspect on Friday, hours after investigators found a woman’s body in a garage. Two more bodies were discovered Saturday — one in a backyard and the other in the basement of a vacant house.(Read More)

Comic-Con Stuntman Recalls Daring Rescue of Woman From 14 Floors Up

 San Diego Comic-Con is a yearly event where fans get to dress up and pretend to be superheroes, but this year a team of stuntmen really did come to the rescue of a person in need.

On Thursday, a team of professionals from the appropriately named company Stunts 911 were in a parking lot situated next to a condominium building in downtown San Diego. In a phone conversation with Yahoo! Movies on Saturday, stunt coordinator Gregg Sergeant said they were on a scaffolding about 30 feet in the air prepping a stunt for a party for the film "Kick-Ass 2" where they would light someone on fire when they first saw a woman standing on the outside railing of a balcony on the 14th floor in an apparent suicide attempt.

Crowds assembled on the ground, at first believing it to be a promotional stunt for Comic-Con. But when it was clear that she was genuinely in danger, the Los Angeles Times reports onlookers shouted out "Don't do it! Don't jump!"(See More)

Batman Set to Face Off Against Superman for ‘Man of Steel’ Sequel in 2015, Summer Movie Guide 2013

 UPDATE: Director Zack Snyder officially announced that Batman will indeed appear in his follow-up to "Man of Steel." He said in a statement, "I'm so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can't wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter.  Let’s face it, it's beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world."

At the panel a logo for the movie was revealed that combines Superman's "S" shield (yes, we know it's not an "S") with the Bat-symbol, which notably looked different than the one in Christopher Nolan's trilogy. Beyonce, Jay Z Silently Join Trayvon Martin’s Mom at Rally

 Supercouple Beyonce and Jay Z certainly haven't been silent about their feelings on the Trayvon Martin tragedy before now, as both have paid tribute to the slain teen in separate concerts this week. But on Saturday, "two of the baddest artists of all time" — as rally organizer Rev. Al Sharpton called them — let their mere presence do the talking, showing up at a demonstration against Stand Your Ground laws in downtown Manhattan and chatting with Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton.
"Jay Z and Beyonce said they didn't want to speak and they didn't come for a photo op," Sharpton told demonstrators. "Jay Z told me, 'I'm a father. Beyonce is a mother.' We all feel the pain and apprehension. The laws must protect everybody, or it doesn't protect anybody."
The pair joined the proceedings when demonstrators reached New York City police headquarters, in one of dozens of protests scheduled across the country to speak out against the Florida self-defense law that allowed George Zimmerman to go free. Woman dies while riding Six Flags roller coaster

(CNN) -- A woman died Friday while riding the Texas Giant roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, according to a statement released by the theme park.  The park did not detail release any details about how the woman died on the Texas Giant, touted as the tallest steel-hybrid roller coaster in the world.  "Since the safety of our guests and employees in our number one priority, the ride has been closed pending further investigation," the statement said.  The Arlington Police Department did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment.  The Texas Giant was originally designed in 1990 as an all wooden roller coaster. It was redesigned with a steel track and reopened in April 2011 to mark the theme park's 50th anniversary.  At its highest point, the roller coaster is 153 feet and has a drop of 147 feet, according to the theme park.  Thousands of kids hurt yearly on amusement rides(Read More)

 Boston Magazine has responded to Rolling Stone’s controversial new cover giving accused marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the glam rock star treatment with incredible new photos of his capture.

This Tsarnaev — bloody and in the fixed beam of a sniper rifle — is “the real face of terror,” the magazine said: “In response to the controversial Rolling Stone cover, new photos of Tsarnaev’s capture emerge.”

The photos come from Sgt. Sean Murphy, a tactical photographer with the Massachusetts State Police who wanted to counter the message from the Rolling Stone cover, the magazine said.

Jim Carrey makes bizarre cameo on prep baseball team’s bus in rural Iowa

 Of all the things the Pella (Ia.) High baseball team expected to find after their final loss of the 2013 season, Jim Carrey on their bus wasn’t one of them.

Incredibly, that’s precisely what they got after the famous actor bumped into the team at a local Burger King and hopped on board the team bus to take a candid photo and help cheer up Pella players following a dispiriting loss.

It’s uncertain precisely what Carrey was doing in rural Iowa, though the Des Moines Register surmised that he was probably there to study transcendental meditation at the Maharishi University of Management. The program has previously been attended by the likes of Oprah and Moby, so there’s every reason to believe that might have been Carrey’s motivation.

No matter what the actor learned about remaining centered at Mahirishi, that went out the window when he got a chance to clown around with a big captive group of teenagers. In a photo posted to Twitter, Carey quickly held up seven fingers next to a lone digit from a Pella player, commemorating Pella’s 7-1 loss to Fairfield (Ia.) High earlier in the day.

While everyone was surprised to see Carrey pop up on their doorsteps, no one was more stunned than Pella coach Jesse Jablonski, who had admonished his players from bothering Carrey when a few had noticed him in the back of the quick serve restaurant where the team was getting post game ice cream.(Read More..)

PBS KIDS: Educational Games, Videos And Activities For Kids

ARLINGTON, VA, December 1, 2008 – PBS and The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) have announced that PBS KIDS Island, a new literacy Web site for preschoolers, has been awarded the “Editor’s Choice Award” by Children’s Technology Review , one of the industry’s leading authorities on technology products for children from birth to age 15. Each month Children’s Technology Review’s editors assess a wide variety of new interactive technology products designed for children. Reviews are based on five criteria: ease of use, education, entertainment, design features and value. The Editor’s Choice Awards are given to an exclusive group of “no fail” products, worthy of their cost, and able to keep children engaged for days at a time. 
According to the notification letter, “The Children's Technology Review Editor's Choice Awards are awarded to only the highest quality children's products in the interactive media category.” In the November 2008 review, CTR Editor Warren Buckleitner, Ph.D. writes: “PBS KIDS Island packs a lot of educational value into an easy-to-use, fun and (gasp) advertising free service. If you teach early readers, or live with one, this site is certainly worth your bookmark.”
PBS KIDS Island, the centerpiece of the new PBS KIDS Raising Readers Web site (www.readytolearnreading.org ), provides free reading games and activities for children, parents, caregivers and teachers to use at home or in the classroom.  The program was developed through a cooperative agreement of the U.S. Department of Education, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, The Ready To Learn Partnership, and funded by a Ready To Learn grant.

PBS KIDS Island takes children on an adventure, as they build their own online island by playing reading games with PBS KIDS® characters from SUPER WHY!, WordWorld, Between The Lions and Sesame Street.   Providing a safe environment for emerging readers to explore, the research-based program guides children through seven different literacy-building levels, including rhyming, letter identification, alliteration, phonics, letter sequencing, phonemic awareness and reading/vocabulary.  
“PBS KIDS Island is built on a literacy framework, scaffolded to preschool reading curriculum,” said Rob Lippincott, senior vice president of Education at PBS.  ”The site tracks a child’s progress and helps  parents, caregivers and teachers identify areas where the child may need additional support.” 
PBS KIDS Island is currently serving the needs of children ages 2-to-5, with plans to offer content for children ages 6-to-8 in 2009.

Zimmerman trial turns spotlight on another Florida self-defense case

ACKSONVILLE, Florida (Reuters) - Three days after a Florida jury found George Zimmerman not guilty for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the Rev. Jesse Jackson visited Jacksonville to call attention to another self-defense case that he called a "travesty" of justice.
Jackson spent an hour in a jailhouse visit with Marissa Alexander, 32, an African American who was sentenced to a mandatory 20 years in prison for firing a warning shot into the wall of her home in 2010 to end a violent argument with her abusive husband.
"In one case Mr. Zimmerman kills a young man and walks away, free to kill again," Jackson said. "And Marissa shot no one, hurt no one, and she's in jail for 20 years."
Jackson said the contrast in the Zimmerman and Alexander cases exposed injustices in the justice system.
"We see radical racial polarization in the judicial system," Jackson told the Florida Times-Union. "That's a cause of great concern."
After meeting with Alexander, Jackson spoke with Angela Corey, the state prosecutor who handled both the Martin and the Alexander cases. Corey told him that Alexander's case is in the appeal phase and out of her jurisdiction, but Jackson said he asked her to use her power to see that Alexander is released.
"Ours was a moral appeal," he said. "This mother has three children. They need their mother," he said, noting that Alexander had already served the three years originally offered to her by the state in a plea deal.
Michael Dowd, a New York domestic violence attorney handling Alexander's appeal, contends she should not have been charged with felonies, but rather a misdemeanor, such as unlawful discharge of a gun.
Local leaders from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the National Action Network are calling for Florida Governor Rick Scott to pardon Alexander. (Read More)

The 40-Year-Old Photo That Gives Us A Reason To Smile

In late July 1973, was wandering the streets of Mount Clemens, Mich.,, a suburb of Detroit, with his camera. As a staff photographer for the Macomb Daily, he was expected to keep an eye out for good feature images — "those little slices of life that can stand on their own."
The slice of life he caught that day was a picture of five young friends in a rain-washed alley in downtown Mount Clemens. And what distinguishes it are its subjects: three black children, two white ones, giggling in each others' arms.
"It was just one of those evenings," Crachiola remembers. "I saw these kids — they were just playing around. And I started shooting some pictures of them. At some point, they saw me and they all turned and looked at me and struck that pose that you see in the picture. It was totally spontaneous. I had nothing to do with the way they arranged themselves."
This week, Crachiola, who now lives in New Orleans, posted the vintage photo on his Facebook page.
"For me, it still stands as one of my most meaningful pictures," he wrote in his post. "It makes me wonder... At what point do we begin to mistrust one another? When do we begin to judge one another based on gender or race? I have always wondered what happened to these children. I wonder if they are still friends."
After several days when the world seemed to be reduced to one big argument about race, the elegantly simple photo hit a nerve — in a good way.
After his Sunday post, Crachiola's Facebook page blew up — as many as 100,000 page views. Six thousand "likes" and thousands of shares. The Macomb Daily reprinted the photo on its Web page and sent someone to the archives to help identify the children, who are now middle-aged.
It's hard not to smile while looking at this picture. Crachiola liked it so much himself that he printed a large copy and has it hanging in his dining room. Former Michigan Rep. Don Riegle reportedly also liked it so much, he got a framed copy and hung it in his office.
Crachiola says that learning of the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial reminded him of the photo and made him think to post it.(Read More..)
